Instant web page translation with a Google Translate widget

Google's work in the field of machine translation is certainly admirable. Whatever commercial motives it may have, the web search mogul invests huge resources into advancement of this very complex field. Admittedly, automatically translated phrases are still more of a source of fun than of improved understanding, but on the other hand, hardly anybody now needs dictionaries or human translators just to get a sense of an article, paragraph, or a word.

A discussion with Lew Carpenter

Lew and Tom sitting in the living room of Emil's house in Pezinok on June 22, 1993. That Tuesday we were to go to Emil's exhibition in Wien, the next day Lew and Eva left for Frankfurt, where Lew set off to Seattle. Vacilando - WTF?

(A Commodore Amiga, for those who don't know, is a 16/32 bit computer system based on the Motorola 680x0 CPU and a few specially designed custom chips that provide very good graphics and sound capabilities.

Prehistoric civilizations?

The notion of limiting historical study to a roughly 5000-year span, out of a possible few million years of human existence, and of only those few world cultures that left written records, is hardly tenable. It remains a possibility that somewhere between the origins of intelligent humanoids and first preserved artifact, or indeed in the vast periods on the geologic time scale, long before what we call ancient history, there existed sophisticated civilizations on Earth that matched or even surpassed our current one.
